Íñigo J. Losada
IHCantabria Research Director; Coastal Engineering Professor, University of Cantabria, Spain


 
Professor Iñigo Losada has a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Cantabria (Spain) and a second PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware (USA). Since 1999 he is Professor of Coastal Engineering at the Civil & Environmental School of the University of Cantabria and, since 2011, Research Director of the Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental-IHCantabria, of which he was the founding Director (2007-2011).
His research has been dealing with the modelling of coastal processes, wave and structure interaction, offshore energy and climate change related risks and adaptation in coastal areas. He was the coordinating lead author of the coastal chapter in the 5th IPCC Assessment Report.
Losada is a recipient of the Moffat & Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award (ASCE) in 2017 and the M. Selim Yalin Lifetime Achievement Award (IAHR) in 2021 for his outstanding contributions to the field.
